VACATION

Good morning. Just wanted to share a few pictures from our little vacation that DH and I took last week. We went up north to the Bancroft area to visit SIL and BIL. We had a great time. My SIL is a wonderful cook and she prepared us some delicious meals. We did some antiquing while we were there and we went to my favorite shop, the Old Tin Shed. It looked wonderful all decorated up for Autumn.
Kit went along too, but she had to stay on her leash the whole time we were outside because there are so many wolves and bears around. She would pick up a scent and run away. I don't think she minds for the few days we are there. Hope everyone is enjoying this cooler weather like I am.
September 7th was a wonderful time also, I attended a Blog gathering at Harvest at the Mill in Holly Michigan and met some wonderful Blogging friends in person. We enjoyed a lovely meal together and chatted. Dawn did a wonderful job organizing everything. Her Harvest at the Mill show was a great success and she is already making plans for next year, September 6th, 2014. So mark you calendars, you won't want to miss it.

HOW TIME FLIES

Today, I came across a picture of my grade 6 class photograph. I was 11 years old. Someone who was in my class back then posted it on Facebook. Check it out, I am in the front row, second from the left. I can actually remember the names of most of my classmates.

MY LATEST FINISH

I don't usually post pictures of my quilts until they have been quilted and the binding is on, but I just love this one. I finished piecing it today. It is a pattern by Kim Diehl called Twilight Hopscotch, from her book Simple Comforts. I used red and cream Civil War fabrics.
Can't wait to quilt it.

CABIN UPDATE

This afternoon DH was working back at the cabin finishing putting the batten strips on. I still have to do some work on the inside, like stain my table and paint the legs and the wood stove needs to be hooked up, so I will post pictures of the inside as soon as that is done. Here are some pictures of the outside. Now I have to stain it :(
Windows and batten strips are installed.
Kit is making sure everything looks good.

A look from the back

Louis and the front of the cabin. Can't wait to get it all decorated up for fall. I can picture Indian corn on the door and pumpkins on the porch :)

A BUSY WEEK

This has been such a busy week here and the weather has been absolutely gorgeous. Lots of gardening going on. Yesterday, I planted some fall mums and some ornamental cabbages around my gardens. My tomatoes are ripening so I have been making tomato sauce. I have cauliflower in the slow cooker to make cream of cauliflower soup, and I just finished baking an apple pie and made 2 for the freezer. The old apple tree is so full of apples this year and so is our pear tree. Look what I just took out of the oven. I made this apple pie for DH, his favorite. Never a dull moment around here :)
Hope you all have a great weekend.

BARN CATS

This morning I snapped a picture of our little barn cats. They were born in April and growing like weeds. Of course Kit felt left out, so I had to take a picture of her too.
Some cute kitties. I just love their colors

A GIFT FROM MY DH

I have been working like crazy in my flower gardens this year and this morning DH surprised me with this load of organic black earth. I have wanted some of this for years. So we spent the day putting it in the flower gardens in the front of the house. What a job and what a hot day to do it.
Needless to say, I am exhausted :(
I will sleep well tonight. I am glad it is done.

FRESH OUT OF THE OVEN

I just took this out of the oven. Saskatoon pie (aka serviceberry pie). We have three bushes of these on the farm, so we picked and froze them for making pies, scones, muffins etc. Love them.

SUMMER'S LAST BLOOMS

I hope everyone here in Canada had a great long weekend. I did a lot of gardening yesterday and this morning I took some pictures. Still haven't taken any new pictures of the cabin as I am having trouble walking right now because I have so much pain in my right hip from getting up and down off of a chair to put up the pine planks on the inside of my cabin. I was kicked in my right hip by a horse about 23 years ago and from time to time it really bothers me. It is a 10 minute walk back there, so as soon as my hip feels better I will post some pictures. Here are pictures from my garden.....summer's last blooms.

THE CABIN

Yesterday DH and I spent the day back at the cabin that he built for me last year. We got the pine ceiling installed (what a job putting up 16 ft lengths of pine and nailing them over our heads) We are sore today :(
The windows were also installed and it is starting to come together. I made us a lunch and we enjoyed that sitting on the porch. I forgot to take my camera back there for picture taking, but I'll be sure to take some this week. The weather was gorgeous yesterday and it was so enjoyable working back there. We took all 3 dogs back there with us and they had a ball.
Hope everyone is having a great week.

A LITTLE SEWING

Yesterday, I attended a day of sewing with some friends and we enjoyed a delicious pot luck dinner too. It all started at 9:30 am in a church basement in Exeter and finished up at 9:30 pm. Everyone was asked to bring a dish of food for our pot luck dinner and what a great meal we had. There was lasagna, beans, ham, hash brown casserole, salads and lots of yummy goodies for desert. We had a great time and we all accomplished so much in the way of sewing. I got a few projects pieced and now I just have to sandwich them and get the quilting done. There were 10 ladies sewing all day and 2 more joined us for dinner and sewing afterwards. A great day!
One of the projects I made, a little table topper

I AM THE LUCKY WINNER!!!

I am the lucky winner of an awesome gardening book. Last week I came upon a site that has so many recipes, gardening tips etc. I have tried a couple of the recipes on there so far and they were delicious, the feta swiss chard pie and the peanut butter cookies.  Tonight I am making the baked lemon asparagus pasta. We have a huge garden and I love to can, cook and bake so I will get a lot of use out of the book. I also ordered her cookbook and it should be arriving any day.
If any of you are interested in the site, I would highly recommend it.

SOME CUTE BARN KITTENS

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I was down in Ohio judging a horse show and it was so hot.
We are having some really hot weather here in South Western Ontario. I can't believe how much my gardens exploded while I was away. I was only gone for two and a half days.
This morning I managed to get a few pictures of some of our new barn kittens. Some were camera shy, but I got some good shots of the ones that didn't mind the camera.
Remember that my give away is this coming Saturday, June 29th, so if you haven't signed up, please do.
