OUR CHICKEN FLOCK

I just took a picture of our chickens starting to roost for the night. I couldn't get them all in the picture, but here are a few of them. Can you spot a rooster in the bunch?............Maybe some of you with chicken experience can tell. I think the one with the larger comb and the wattle is a rooster. It just looks different than the rest. They are still young and not laying yet. What do you think? I don't think they liked me taking their picture while they were trying to settle in for the night.
Plymouth Rocks and Rhode Island Reds

The one on the left side is the one that I think may be a Rooster

  2. You are probably right about the rooster. I see that "he" is the most concerned and is probably wanting to protect the flock. Good-looking birds!!

  5. I'm no expert, Janet but I think you're right about Mr. Rooster because all the others look like my gals and I know they are hens because they were sexed when we got them.

They look like a fine bunch!

  6. P.S. Looks like you might have another one in there as well. Look at the "guy" second from the left in the first photo.

    1. Hi Kaaren. I am thinking that too. Those two were having a "standoff" yesterday, so that is a clue. There is no signs of crowing yet. The last time I had some young ones, one of them started crowing and I knew it was a rooster.

  7. Hehe...looks like our coop at night! They sure don't like to be disturbed once they are settled in for the night..do they? We're new at this chicken thing too and are wondering if we have roosters....just have to wait to see! We're still waiting for eggs too. Enjoy...they are such fun to watch aren't they?
