LOSING A VERY SPECIAL FRIEND

Today is a very sad day for me. Early this morning I lost my special little friend Shorty. I adopted her from rescue almost 10 years ago.  She was around the age of 7 or 8 when she came to live with us. I can't even begin to tell you how much joy she brought to our lives. I found this little poem and I am posting it as a tribute to her.
I loved her so much. It broke my heart.

God looked around his garden and found an empty place.
He then looked down upon the earth and saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful, he always takes the best.

He knew that you were suffering, he knew you were in pain.
He knew that you would never get well on this earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb.
So he closed your weary eyelids and whispered "Peace be thine".

It broke our hearts to lose you but you didn't go alone.
For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.

  1. She looks much like Ducky--our BIL beloved terrier.
I have great empathy for you, as we lost our Clifford in October and it was a devastating loss.
There are no words that can help ease this pain or fill this void. Just know that your sweet Shorty waits for you with all those who have gone before and that she was welcomed with loving arms by them and by our Savior. I understand and I will pray for your peace.

  5. Janet I am so sorry. We lost our beautiful boy Duffy on December 6th. and I still miss him every day. He was also a chosen, adopted member of our family. My heart goes out to you, take comfort in the wonderful life you gave to Shorty. Here is a poem that was sent to me and although it made me cry it also made me smile.

    Blessings,
    Sue

    The Rainbow Bridge

    inspired by a Norse legend

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

    For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

  8. I'm so sorry Janet. We had a Jack Russell for 13 years and they are a "one of a kind" dog. We loved him so much too, so I do understand. What a beautiful poem, it made me think of my Dad. Dawn
